Rip the Page! WorkshopsMy book, RIP THE PAGE! is interactive and is meant to be written in, (yes, creative cats included!) word lists added to, even pages ripped right out of the book.  But only if it’s YOUR book.

I visit schools to write with kids and kids-at-heart (aka teachers) using writing experiments that are guaranteed to get you eager to pick up a pen and find out all the ways creative writing can be your friend.  In RIP THE PAGE! Workshops, we dive deep into images and resurface with poems, un-stick old stories and hard-to-uncover memories, and surprise ourselves as we rip on down the page to inward-bound adventures.

FYI: Teachers ordering 14 or more copies of RIP THE PAGE! directly from Shambhala receive a 50% discount. Contact kdescorcy@shambhala.com for more information.

“Rip the Page! is fun, sassy, and zany. It’s a great resource for writers of all ages–and for teachers of creative writing–who want to put the zing back in their writing.”

– Julia Alvarez, author of Return to Sender

California Poets in the Schools

CPITS has been in existence since 1964, helping students throughout California recognize and celebrate their own creativity, intuition, and intellectual curiosity through the creative writing process. CPITS provides students with a multicultural community of trained, published poets who bring their experience and love for their craft into the classroom. There are approximately 150 poet-teachers in the program, and I am happy to count myself among them.

Book Covers

I’ve been with the CPITS program for 17 years. Many of my poems and my students’ poems have been published in the annual CPITS Statewide Anthologies. The anthologies are also great references for lesson plans. Contact CPITS.org to order back copies as well as the 45th anniversary issue which includes an introduction by Gary Soto.
